The Foundation Philosophy of The Oracle of the Solar Cross

by David Tresemer, Ph.D.

Editor's note: The Oracle of the Solar Cross is a 2 CD set available for purchase by clicking here:  www.starwisdom.org/solar-cross-reading.htm

These notes may be helpful for two reasons:

1.)    They speak about the foundations of The Oracle of the Solar Cross, which has matured and is being re-packaged with better introductory material.

2.)    They speak about the foundations of all astrology, and from the viewpoint of the soul, thus it’s about astrosophy – star-wisdom.

When you were born, at your most vulnerable, your most impressionable, you breathed in with your first breath the whole cosmos.  The stars imprinted in your cranium, your every cell.  The most potent imprint came through the amplifier and focusing lens of the Sun. Let’s be systematic about the foundations of this approach.  I will give a series of statements or hypotheses.  Hypothesis means a concept that needs to be tested by experience.  These build as we go along.

1. We enter this life on a stream of physical heredity.

We begin with something with which everyone agrees.  We can point out physical forms and even behaviors that we can trace to our parents and grandparents. “You have grandfather Simon’s nose!” “You talk just like your great-aunt Sophie!”

2. We also arrive on a stream of spiritual heredity.

By spirit we intend meaning, purpose, and the source and origin of our awareness.  We point to the interrelationship with beings not perceived by our usual senses, beings vast in number and extent.  Thus spirit is living, changing, vital, and everywhere.  We move in and out its realms.  Sometimes our spiritual heredity is called karma, a term often misunderstood.  Karma is the patterns we bring with us into this life from the time before birth and from the many lives that have preceded us.  Karma or spiritual heredity is not a side issue, but rather the core issue of our soul’s use of the opportunity of this life.  We don’t enter as blank slates but with a great deal of baggage and possibility.  What will we do with it?  That is the question of karma or spiritual heredity.  Physical heredity and the emotional patterning learned through our early experiences condition our ability to know and respond to our spiritual heredity.  How can we come to know this spiritual heredity?  First, we must understand better the larger picture.

3. Spiritual facts as living patterns of energy reside in the heavens.

These energy patterns vary widely.  They include quality, that is, the subtlety of feeling and aesthetics.  From this we train our senses to become more than mechanical reporters of information.  We mature our senses into organs of perception of beauty.  The energy patterns include geometry, the source of the so-called sacred geometry used as the design basis of the great cathedrals, great paintings, and great music.  Spiritual facts have many other forms as well, layering and layering to become the complexity of living beings.  The old Sanskrit name for this impressionable zone of spirit is akasha or the akashic record.

4. Different places in the heavens hold different patterns, which emanate or resonate uniquely.

All the ancients knew this, seeing in different places in the heavens different living beings.  Zarathustra or Zaratas, in a lifetime in the 6th century BC, described the most powerful beings with the greatest clarity.  He perceived twelve beings along the line of the ecliptic – the plane defined by the path of the Sun orbiting around Earth (the same as Earth around the Sun).  To each of the twelve he described various attributes – the Archer, the Bull, the Fishes – each with an equal space in the zodiac.  He perceived that each being was further divided into thirty degrees.  12 x 30 giving 360 degrees in all.  Thus we experience one of these degrees on every day, with a slight adjustment for the extra five days of the year, days always thought to be holy days.  Those who do the work of Star Wisdom belong to the School of Zarathustra.  So do we all to some extent.  Division of a circle into 360 degrees, and the clock-face going from 1 to 12 – these come from Zarathustra.  Every time you look at a clock face, you are peering through Zarathustra’s particular view of time.

5. These spiritual beings affect us especially through the amplifier of the Sun.

This hypothesis needs to be tested through personal experience.  It is the approach we take in the Oracle of the Solar Cross. The Sun acts as a laser magnifying what lies in the akashic records in the zodiac, into our lives.  The planets – Moon, Venus, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn are the classical planets – modulate the Sun’s gift. In the Oracle of the Solar Cross these modulations are not worked with, as they are so individual. In a Reading in Star Wisdom, these are worked with actively.

6. We are most sensitive to these impressions from spirit at our first breath.

This extraordinary sensitivity at our birth forms the basis of astrology.  Though astrology is responsible for a great deal of silliness, careful research has verified its accuracy when used wisely.  The kind of astrology used here is star-based rather than seasonal-based.  Star-based is called sidereal or astronomical – it is what astronomers can agree that we see.  Seasonal-based is called tropical and – it’s a long story – has become the conventional form of astrology practiced in the West.  Star-based or sidereal astrology is the original star wisdom of its founder, Zarathustra.  You may find that the celestial location we have for your birthday differs from what you thought.  That’s because most people use the seasonal-based system of astrology.  We are not so interested in the season but in what stars lay behind the Sun at the moment of your birth.

7. Thus what lives at a particular degree of the zodiac impresses itself into our soul at our birth, as a resource, a pattern, a challenge, that may manifest in different ways depending on our individual circumstances.

Here is a riddle that we must solve within the context that we are given.  Louis XIV, the Sun King of France, and the poor Lutheran monk Edouard Moricke were born with the same degree of the zodiac behind the Sun.  But they lived in different centuries, and Louis XIV had a great deal more money to spend than Moricke.  Thus their capacity to express the impression from birth differed greatly; however, we see very similar soul gestures, accounting for the different circumstances of their lives.  We look not so much at accomplishments in an outer sense but at soul gestures.  You probably haven’t heard of Eduard Moricke but a close study of his relatively private life shows how he worked with the Solar Image into which he was born. His poetry can be matched with the lavish construction of Versailles, as we look for soul gestures.

8. Great deeds of human beings reflect the preexisting spiritual facts shining through the Sun.

We can learn about what lives in the cosmos by studying the deeds of great human beings, that is, human beings who have developed their sensitivities and capacities so that they express something beyond their personal lives.  We can also learn about the cosmos by studying the great deeds of regular human beings, that is, extraordinary actions of otherwise “normal” human beings who have clearly broken through to world or cosmic levels in a particular instance.   What the French would call beau gestes, beautiful and powerful gestures.  Perhaps you have experienced occasions when a greater strength or clarity or wisdom streamed through you.  Those are spiritual beings working through the capacities of your soul, expressing something of the wonders of the cosmos.

9. Great deeds also imprint from the Earth into the being behind the Sun.

Thus spiritual impressions go both ways.  Great deeds – and we include here thoughts and feelings – impress into the cosmos.  Over time, vast spans of time by our daily standards, the zodiac is intended to evolve from a line of animals – Bull, Lion, Eagle – into a humanized zodiac.  This will come about through our deeds.  All of them count, though thankfully silly and trivial deeds count very little, as they lack the power and vitality to imprint very deeply.  Great deeds, however, count for a great deal.  To this we must awaken, that our every deed, thought, and feeling has a consequence, small or large.  They imprint not only into the akashic record of our own stream of lives, but actually affect all of evolution.  Divine beings assist us to come to this awareness of the fact that we are never alone but swim, so to speak, in a sea of divine beings, actually within their supportive and embracing bodies.  Never alone, and always responsible.

To summarize, the stars speak to us and we speak to the stars, and we evolve together.

10. Those who have gone before us – our star brothers and star sisters – can be our mentors.

Those who have gone through the same gate of birth as we have can act as mentors for us. We observe their lives and learn from their accomplishments and mistakes. They are truly elder brothers and sisters of the stars. A Reading in Star Wisdom acquaints us with our elders, often people about whom we had no idea – consciously. The hypothesis of astrosophy is that we “know” our star brothers and star sisters in our soul, even if not consciously. It often feels like a homecoming to learn about them. A feeling of warmth arises for those who have gone before.

There are others who have died into the gate through which we passed. We call them Bodes, because they can “bode well” for you – they are helpful – or they can “bode ill.” The latter ones are worth some study as the energy patterns from the time of their death can affect how easily you receive the gifts offered in that gate of entry to your life.

Most people need to begin this inquiry into the relationship with the divine beings of the heavens by understanding the gifts that were given to them personally at their birth, which have probably not been opened yet.  We have a particular approach to the identification of these gifts.  We have found through extensive research and meditation that there are certain Images imprinted in each of the 360 degrees of the heavens.  The task of this work is to identify those Images and refine them.  It is ongoing work, as we gather more information through research and meditation, a never-ending process as we are dealing with living beings.

"Even though I'm not a Christian in the traditional sense, the Solar Cross experience found and opened an unexpected passage to the Christ Consciousness, allowing access to his vision, mission, and loving presence - without the middleman of organized religion. By hearing the recounting of certain events of His life and feeling the uncanny counterpoints in my own, I was moved and challenged, comforted and inspired in ways which continue to resonate in my life. I look back and forward to this as an ongoing initiation for which I'm truly grateful".
